It takes place at Alexander House, 160 Pennywell Road, Bristol, from January to June 2011 and is delivered in three modules. All sessions are on Wednesday evenings and run from 7.30 to 9.30. Bishop Declan will welcome participants and open the course on 19th January 2011. Please see Fr Michael, if you are interested.

SECOND COLLECTION TODAY Day for Life Day for Life, initiated by the late Pope John Paul II, is the day of the year the Catholic Church in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales dedicates to celebrating the dignity of human life from conception to natural death. The collection taken in parishes today is used to give grants to life-related activities supported by the Church including the Anscombe Bioethics Centre. £25,000 has been awarded to Professor Neil Scolding’s programme at Frenchay, which is involved in  important ethical bone marrow stem cell research relating to multiple sclerosis. Gift Aid envelopes available in the narthex.

KEYNSHAM TOWN COUNCIL AWARDS evening was held last Wednesday, and a cheque for £500 was presented to St Dunstan's Church. This grant is to be used to purchase kitchen equipment for the new Hall. A very welcome boost to achieving our target of £15,000. Thank you to our council!

PAPAL VISIT 2010 We are privileged to have Stephen Corrigan representing the young people of our parish at the forthcoming visit of the Holy Father on Saturday 18^th  September.  He will be in London with many other young people from across the diocese and the UK to take part in a procession from Westminster Cathedral to Hyde Park,  where they will receive a message from the Pope, and where there will be a gathering of over 5,000 young people to celebrate being young Catholics. DEPARTMENT OF LITURGY course at Wesley College led by Fr Michael and members of the liturgy department begins again in the autumn. It has been designed to provide formation and education in Pastoral Liturgy for our parishes.  No previous qualifications are required, just a love of the liturgy!  The Course is designed to run over two school years, studying one module each term over four Saturdays. THE SACRISTY ROOF was once again visited  by lead thieves on Sunday night. The roof will shortly be replaced with a non lead roofing. Please be vigilant when in and around the church for anything that looks suspicious.

SECOND COLLECTION NEXT SUNDAY Sea Sunday is when we pray for all those who live and work at sea.  This year is designated ‘The Year of the Seafarer’. Seafarers are commonly recruited from poorer countries where wages are lower, and they work in difficult and often dangerous conditions suffering from loneliness, spiritual deprivation and even exploitation as they transport the goods we use and consume every day.

ROCKY HORROR THEATRE TRIP The reminder of the money is now due for the show, £19 per person, after deposits of £10 were paid. PARISHES IN COMMUNION FOR MISSION Bishop Declan has invited clergy and lay people of the diocese to the Cathedral on 23rd June at 7.30pm to celebrate a liturgy during which parish reps will receive a copy of ‘Parishes in Communion for Mission’. This new booklet outlines our vision for the future organisation of parishes. Our parishes are being encouraged to work more closely with one another in mission. All the faithful are being asked to look again at what is the essential role of the priest and the responsibility of every individual Catholic as a member of the Body of Christ. Members of our “Seeking the face of Christ” groups are asked to do their best to be present.

SPECIAL COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND ‘Peter’s Pence’. The Peter’s Pence Collection unites us in solidarity to the Holy See and its works of charity to those in need. Your generosity allows the Pope to respond to our suffering brothers and sisters with promptness, love, and compassion, so God’s people will not feel alone in their time of misfortune. The Peter’s Pence Collection derives its name from an ancient custom. In the ninth-century, King Alfred the Great collected money – “pence” or pennies – from landowners as financial support for the Pope. Today, the Peter’s Pence Collection supports the Pope’s philanthropy by giving the Holy Father the means to provide emergency assistance to those in need because of natural disaster, war, oppression, and disease.

CORPUS CHRISTI In today’s celebration we proclaim our belief in the Real presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. We also proclaim that same Jesus lives within each one of us who are baptised into His Body, the Church. In fact, the entire Trinity takes up residence within us and, through that life in the Church and participation in the Sacraments we can live in the Trinity. This is the mystery of what we call communion. The Christian faith and life is about relationship, with the Father, in and through His Son Jesus and in Jesus Christ with one another for the sake of the world. The world into which we process is the world that God still loves so much that He continues to send His Son to save, recreate and transform it from within.  The Corpus Christi procession today after the 10.30am Mass, symbolises the ongoing redemptive mission of Jesus Christ and our participation in it. We take Jesus Christ into the World!  Let us rejoice in so great a gift!

BISHOP DECLAN / YEAR FOR PRIESTS invites you to join him at the close of this Year for Priests at the Cathedral on Fri 11 June (Solemnity of the Sacred Heart) at 11.00am. He will be joined by many of the priests of our diocese to bring this spiritual year to a prayerful close.

PARISHES IN COMMUNION FOR MISSION Bishop Declan has invited clergy and lay people of the diocese to the Cathedral on 23 June to celebrate a liturgy during which parish reps will receive a copy of ‘Parishes in Communion for Mission’. This new booklet outlines our vision for the future organisation of parishes. Our parishes are being encouraged to work more closely with one another in mission. All the faithful are being asked to look again at what is the essential role of the priest and the responsibility of every individual Catholic as a member of the Body of Christ. Members of our “Seeking the face of Christ” groups are asked to do their best to be present.

CHRISTIAN AID  The door to door collection raised a total of £6311.41 (all churches together) , the mini market £809.61 and the Christian Aid service £245.80. Thank you very much to all who contributed and a special thank you to all the collectors.
