Music at St Dunstan’s

Organ and Instrumentalists

We are blessed with a good number of skilled and dedicated musicians here at Saint Dunstan’s. The new Renaissance Allen organ is used for most Masses, played by one of our three organists. Once a month we have an instrumental group playing on Sundays, consisting of acoustic guitars, bass guitar, violin, and sometimes flute or clarinet. There is some interest in starting up an instrumental group for Saturdays … watch this space!

We practice on Thursdays in Church at 7.30pm, along with the choir and we welcome new musicians to come and join us.

There are currently nine cantors on the Rota for Sunday masses and occasionally we have a cantor on Saturday night as well. We have men, women and young people; currently the youngest is fifteen. The cantors  sing the gospel acclamation and responsorial psalm and lead communion processional chants.
We have held training days for cantors and attended workshops elsewhere.

SATB Choir

We have recently tried to form a SATB choir, but there is a lack tenor and bass voices. We would welcome new members!

Sunday Choir

Singers rehearse weekly, on Thursdays for the Sunday Masses. We learn new hymns and Mass settings and rehearse familiar music. More recently we have been developing more part singing, mainly in Taize and similar chants. We have broadened our repertoire tremendously over the last few years. Our aim is to lead and encourage the singing of the congregation in the worship of God.
